Oura Ring Vs Apple Watch – Why I Love My Oura Ring So Much
I wanna start out by saying that this is not sponsored in any way – I have been a full paying customer for over three years now & I absolutely love my oura ring SO much! I do have a referral link with them that shows them I sent you, however I am not getting paid or compensated to make this blog! I figured this blog was well overdue, due to the amount of questions I get about it whenever I post about it! I wanted to make a spot for people to come to & get as much information about it as possible before investing in one themselves, since it is a big investment.
Sleep Data
I think the main reason why I absolutely love my oura ring is because of the extensive sleep data it tracks for me! Upon waking up each morning it gives you your readiness score which is based on your recovery from the previous day’s activity, your sleep, your resting HR, your temp, your HRV, etc. It truly tracks SO much sleep date including: your total sleep, your light sleep, REM sleep, deep sleep, time you are awake, your sleep latency (how long it takes you to fall asleep), the timing of when you are going to sleep, your efficiency at sleeping & your restfulness. It also tells you your breathing regularity, your average O2 saturation overnight, your resting heart rate, & your average HRV (heart rate variability – how well your body is adapting & recovering). Maybe it’s just me, but the more data the better, I love seeing how my body recovers and how well I am sleeping on any given night – it is SO neat!
Activity Tracking
It tracks your daily expenditure of calories as well as your activity burn as well! It can track walks or any other training session such as yoga or strength training! I would say it is more accurate than the apple watch because the calories are always less than what the apple watch says and I feel like the apple watch overshoots sometimes! It tracks your high, medium & low movement throughout the day and total inactivity for the day so if you aren’t moving enough it will notify you if you need to get up and move! It also tracks your steps, which I love! It tells you if you are training smart by evaluating your training volume, frequency and recovery time. It gives you an activity score daily that tells you basically if you are being active enough – your score will be on the low side if you are doing too little or too much!
Temperature Trends & Compatibility With Natural Cycles App
Battery Life
Pros and Cons of Oura Ring
Pros:
- Better battery life than apple watch
- Only need to charge 1-2x a week
- Tracks temperature which can help you with natural family planning
- More accurate sleep data (a TON of sleep data)
- Gives you a daily readiness score based on temp, sleep, previous activity etc.
- Compatible with natural cycles app
- Compatible with apple watch
- Sleek & simple design
- Fits TTS
Cons:
- Can get scratched easily if you wear while lifting
- Cannot see time on the ring like you can with the watch
- Cannot see activity data until after workout
- $5 membership fee for the app each month (really no way around this) – my link does give you a free first month though! I do think it is worth it for all the data you get, but I know it can be a con to have to have a membership.
