My Hospital Bag Must-Haves
Breastfeeding
Haakaa
To collect letdown while nursing on one side, we used syringes to syringe feed her whatever I caught on my left side since she wouldn’t latch on my left right away!
Motherlove Nipple Butter
I preferred this nipple butter over the lanolin bc it’s not as thick and goopy, plus you don’t have to wipe it off before nursing! I also loved using coconut oil too!
Auden Nursing Bras
The comfiest bras for nursing in my opinion & so easy to whip your boobie out to feed!
Silverettes
Helped my sore nipples so much!
Syringes
We got these from the hospital – no need to bring your own, I used these to syringe feed her extra colostrum that I collected in the haakaa.
Button-up PJs
Linking my fav from target and amazon! so much comfier than having to wear the hospital gown! easy to unbutton for breastfeeding too! I didn’t wear pants the first few days after my c-section because it was so hard to bend over! these PJs were a lifesaver!
Post Partum Bleeding
Frida Mom Peri Bottle
This is way better than the hospital peri bottle, way easier to use!
Always Depends PP Diapers
I wore a size L & XL and they were so comfy! the first few days I added in a hospital pad because I was bleeding quite a bit!
(Disclaimer – I had a C section delivery so I didn’t need the tucks pads or dermaplast like I thought I would if I would have had a vaginal deliver!)
Frida Mom Hospital Packing Kit
The kit I brought & would have used though if I had a vaginal delivery
C-Section
Amazon Belly Binder
(When up & moving), liked better than hospital binder! gave me support when I was up and moving! I’m so glad I ordered this for myself just in case I needed a c section!
Compression Socks
You will have swelling after your c-section from all of the meds and fluids from surgery, the compression socks helped me so much with my swelling!
For Baby
White Noise Machine
This noise machine is our favorite, it’s portable, charge lasts a while & it gets loud!
Shusher
Some babies love it, some babies hate it, ours loves it & it soothes her so well!
2 Pairs of Footies
To be honest, I honestly overpacked clothes for her. Truly, I kept her in her diaper wrapped in a cozy blanket 90% of the time – it made the nurse’s job easier too for their assessments! she wore maybe 2 footies the whole time we were in the hospital! you don’t need as many outfits as you think! Kyte baby, Seny kids & Little Sleepies are our favorite footies!
Swaddle / Bamboo Swaddle Blanket
Our favorite swaddle blanket was the custom name one from Caden Lane (code BAILEYT20) saves you 20%
Jollypop Pacifiers
Her favorite pacis! We tried Itzy Ritzy, Maam, Avent, etc & she hated them all! The hospital actually had this brand so we ordered more from amazon!
Comfy Cozy Blanket
For snuggling them up in!
Shampoo & Scalp Scrubber
If you plan on washing babies hair – we delayed her first bath til her umbilical cord stump fell off, however her hair was crusty so we washed that after a day! I didn’t want to use the J&J hospital shampoo so we brought our own! Pipette & Tubby Todd shampoo are our favorites!
Car Seat
Toiletries
Your own towel
This was nice to have because hospital towels are tiny and not very cozy
Travel size body wash, shampoo, conditioner
If you plan to shower, I did & I was so glad I had my own stuff to shower with, you truly feel like a whole new woman after you shower!
Dry shampoo
If you don’t want to wash your hair
Chapstick & Face moisturizer
Hospital air is SO dry, you’ll want to bring these two things to avoid chapped lips & skin!
Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Hairbrush and Ponytails/Claw Clip
Miscellaneous
ID cards / Insurance Cards
Just in case
Snacks
Granola bars, protein bars, meat sticks, candy, trail mix, fruit snacks etc
Shower Shoes
Own Pillows & Blankets
I was skeptical about bringing these but tons of you guys recommended we bring our own pillows and blankets and I’m so glad we did because hospital pillows and blankets aren’t very comfy, we barely slept as it was but having your own stuff does make it easier to sleep!
(Make sure your husband packs a couple outfits and toiletries for themselves too!)
Long Phone Charger
Cordless Phone Charger
Things I brought, but didn’t use
+ Boppy (I just used hospital pillows or blankets to prop her up)
+ Too many outfits for both me & baby! I really lived in pajama gowns and she was in a diaper most of the time!
+ Diapers and wipes – I ended up just using what the hospital had, it was just easier and convenient!
+ Baby books & polaroid camera – I took pictures with my phone because I didn’t want to blind my baby with the flash lol & I had zero time to fill out baby books lol – jokes on me haha!
+ Burp cloths & bibs – didn’t use
+ Nail clippers/filer – didn’t use
+ Brought a bunch of paci’s that she hated, she ended up liking the hospital ones! Jollypop pacifiers, linked above!
+ Velcro swaddle & Love to Dream Swaddle – she hated these lol
+ Maternity Undies – I just wore diapers lol
+ Elvie Catch Cups – i didn’t leak until my milk came in so I didn’t need these in the hospital
+ Name sign & announcement outfit: bring this if you want to take announcement pictures! We got ours from Etsy! We just waited til we got home to take her pics because the hospital lighting was not good haha.
